Building resilience with motivational speaker Mark Agnew
Motivational and adventure speaker Mark Agnew shares how control, commitment, and challenge—the 3 Cs of resilience—can help you thrive in work, life, and extreme adventure.
Psychologists identify three key ingredients for resilience: control, commitment, and challenge. Resilient people focus on what they can influence and let go of what they cannot. They reframe obstacles as challenges instead of setbacks. And crucially, they feel resilient when engaging in tasks they are committed to—tasks that matter to them.
This is why I often feel more resilient on a demanding adventure than behind a desk doing routine tasks. I care deeply about the adventure, I am committed, and every obstacle is an opportunity to learn. This mindset—commitment to meaningful goals—drives resilience naturally.
In my motivational adventure talks, I help audiences discover how to care about the task at hand, find intrinsic motivation, and feel truly excited about what they do. When people are committed and engaged, resilience isn’t something they must force—it emerges organically.
Whether you want to thrive in work, personal growth, or extreme adventure, the 3 Cs provide a blueprint for resilience. Focus on what you can control, commit to what matters, and embrace challenges as opportunities.
